Our Approach
2024 for Sabo is about continuing our sustainability and ethical production journey. It's a topic we keep at the forefront of our decision making, as we understand the importance of making responsible choices and ensuring fair practices throughout our supply chain.ย
Over the past six years, we've started small, by breaking down our processes to see where we can make the biggest impact and change first. We have identified areas where we can have the greatest positive impact, including our packaging and fabric choices and energy usage. We are committed to providing our community with transparent details about our progress.
We understand that sustainability is an ever-evolving field, which is why improvements within our design and logistics teams working towards integrating sustainable practices and materials is a constant WIP.
Sabo is dedicated to building a better future for fashion that respects people and the planet, while simultaneously providing our customers with the Sabo products that they know and love.
Packaging and Product
Our main focus of using natural fibres as much as possible continues to be a priority in 2024, with our main choices being cotton and linen due to their natural and biodegradable properties, reduced chemical use in cultivation and water conservation. Some other natural fibres that we use include wool and ramie.
We are continuing to work with our fabric mills to improve our fabric production and sourcing. 99% of our printed garments are made with our very own, custom milled fabrics and all of our exclusive print designs, lingerie, knitwear, swim and denim are OEKO-TEX Standard 100 Certified. This means that every component of the product, from the fabric, ink, thread and accessories, has been rigorously tested against a list of up to 350 toxic chemicals.
Our goal in 2024 is to further improve our garment packaging to a more sustainable option that is even easier for our customers to recycle.
Currently, our garment packaging is made from recyclable LDPE, our SABO shipping satchels and store bags are made from 100% recyclable materials and our current garment bags are reused both at SABO HQ and In-Store.
We have successfully reduced our paper usage throughout our processes and have changed 95% of our packaging to recyclable/recycled/biodegrable materials. We have a strict recycling/reusing policy throughout our business, specifically with plastic and recyclable items including garment bags and food packaging items. We continue to use reusable water bottles made from fully recyclable co-polymer at Sabo HQ. In 2024, we will be further reducing our paper usage by changing our Customer Order invoices to be completely electronic and paperless.
Our power source at HQ has been 100% solar powered since 2019, which means that we are running on a more sustainable energy source to perform all of our HQ operations, from powering our computers to processing orders.ย
On top of this, our electricity usage is lower than our solar output, which means that weโre consistently providing renewable and sustainable energy back onto the grid.
To encourage reusable bag use and to inspire our community to care for the environment, we gift reusable tote bags with all orders of 5+ items. These are constantly being re-designed for a fresh look to keep our customers motivated to participate in reusing our packaging.
